Venus Rising (see our tech support page!) (Available as a PDF from Patternfish) It is not a difficult pattern, yet it is a challenging bit of knitting. Adjustable for ample figures. Back view shown. Size: S (M, L), finished chest measurement 38" (42", 46") Length 21" (22", 22"), may easily be adjusted after the first sleeve is complete. The Kauni fabric will narrow and lengthen slightly once the garment is washed (approximately 5%). Yarn: 550 (600, 650) g Kauni wool fingering weight (100g = 400m), used triple throughout from a single ball (by the Navaho method). A small quantity of brightly contrasting, similar weight yarn (to the triple Kauni strand) waste yarn. The neck gusset may be made in a contrasting colour Kauni if desired, allow 30 (40, 50) grams of contrast. Gauge: Over stocking stitch unwashed 11.5 sts x 16 rows = 4" square. Approximately 3 sts x 4 rows = 1"; this was achieved on 8mm (US# 11). The adjustability of the design allows for some variance in gauge. Needles: SMALLER 6.5mm (US# 10.5) for cuffs and band: your will need at least an 80cm long circular needle for the band, and dpns for the cuff (if you do not wish to use the one-long-circular method). LARGER 8mm (US# 11): The sleeves (worked in the round) may be worked on a set of 10" dpns, or on two circulars of at least 80cms in length or one 120 cm circular needle. The body may be worked on two circulars of at least 80cms in length or one 120 cm circular needle after the side 'seam' is completed. Two additional smaller size circulars are useful for opening the back neck. The shoulder width or the fit of the band may be adjusted by altering the needle size by one increment. A needle size change has a far more significant effect on row height than row width. Techniques: Navaho plying, short-row shaping, tubular cast-on onto two needles, grafting using waste yarn and a neck insertion (all is explained) Level: Advanced Pattern price: $12.00 CAD |
